NEWS

Now that websites are old hat, I have a new web site. On this web site I have combined my activities in sound music listening explorations and my visual works including photography, painting, poetry, postcarding and writing. And for the first time some I've included links for friends interested in purchasing music either from the labels who support my work or directly from me. Enjoy.

I've heard that an excerpt from my sound work "ICEBREAKER", featuring the sound of an amplified ice crushing machine from the 50s, has been included in an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Looking at Music 3.0. February 16 - June 6, 2011 @ MOMA

Looking at Music 3.0, curated by Barbara London, explores the influence of muic on contemporary art practices, focusing on New York in the 1980s and 1990s  .View the PDF

I am of a member of the Lazy Anarchists and we were featured, or maybe we performed, in an exhibition in Slovakia recently. The invitation is in Czech so I'm not sure of the details or the name of the gallery - but the title od the exhibition is "you will recognize it when you will get older". Here is the announcement. I was too lazy to go but I'm sure it was fun.

Gen Ken & Equipment, the first cassette I produced in 1981, has been featured by the infamous musicologist Tony Coulter, on WFMU's Beware of the Blog   blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2010/12/blogpost-27.html

New release - A cassette! Remember those? "Termites" produced by Banned Productions in California is available for $5. It features sounds I recorded in Pennsylvania in a wood shed but also sounds of a bike ride in Belieze. Package comes with an amazing photograph of a termite home in Namibia captured by one of my favorite artists - Uschi Huber.   www.bannedproduction.com/genken.html

Birds & Machines has been listed on a TOP TEN blog. Wow! That's all I have to say.

2010 Highlights: my ArtDetox Tour in Europe Art Detox Tour Eleven cities in ten days and NO ART MADE!

Hear:

1/f Noise | Smoothing Out The Press on Touch Radio - www.touchradio.org.uk/touch_radio_46_ken_montgomery.html

1/f Noise - While teaching sound art in Cincinnati Ohio's art school DAAP, Montgomery organized sonic tours of the Ceramics Department. The audience was blindfolded and led one by one down 8 flights of stairs into a series of listening stations where ventilators, burning kilns and other machinery were in use (2008).

Smoothing Out The Press was composed using the Sound of Sanding from the Crest Hardware Show plus recordings made at Ben Owen's Middle Press in Brooklyn while printing the Ministry of Lamination's Almost Blank Notebook letterpress edition (2007)

An interview/conversation with David Weinstein about my new CD Birds + Machines (1980-1989) & more - ARTonAIR.org

The new CD, Birds + Machines (1980-1989), is compiled from compositions which in hindsight I find to be quite musical.

More details about that in the liner notes! Available on Pogus Productions - www.pogus.com
You can buy it hear! If you want, you can buy a copy directly from me too! (Then you get something extra!)
